Professor Ottmar Edenhofer will act as director of the newly established Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC). The MCC will commence its operations in 2012 with the goal of advancing research on the opportunities and challenges of sustainable economic growth in a resource and sink bounded world with a particular focus on avoiding dangerous climate change. By conducting topical Assessment Reports in close cooperation with international partner institutions, MCC aims to promote deliberative communication and decision-making at the interface between science, policy and society.

On Monday, the summary for policymakers of the SRREN has been approved by government representatives for IPCC member countries at the 11th Session of Working Group III co-chaired by Prof. Ottmar Edenhofer in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
